DESCRIPTION
In collaboration with large international firms, DNA Architects had the pleasure of contributing their expertise in providing stellar master planning services, program planning and terminal concept planning. The $13 billion plan to redevelop John F. Kennedy International Airport will add 4 million square feet over a few terminals. The redevelopment is slated to begin in 2023 and run for a few years. Enhancements such as larger waiting areas with high ceilings, more natural light, interior green spaces, 230,000 square feet of retail, dining, and other concessions will be made in order to enhance the airport. The new terminal on the south side will include the replacement of Terminals 1 and 2 with a new 2.9 million square feet terminal with 23 international gates. There will also be a new north side terminal that is 1.2 million square feet connected to the existing Terminal 5. This new terminal will include 12 international gates — all able to facilitate larger wide-bodied aircrafts. The Redevelopment also included new large parking decks and Welcome Centers, Wayfinding and Roadway Portal Projects.
